Today we headed to Sedona with Slide Rock State Park high on the list of MUST DOs! Slide Rock State Park was originally an Apple Farm dating back to 1912. Located in the Oak Creek Canyon, Slide Rock is about a 10 minute drive from the heart of Sedona.
Slide Rock State Park was named in the Travel Channel's list of "10 Top Swimming Holes in the United States." Sedona's red rocks form the "ultimate natural water slide." which is about 80 feet long. Algae on the rocks creates a fun and slippery , yet bumpy ride.
There is about 1/2 a mile of Oak Creek that is available for swimming , along with slide there is a rock you can jump off into some very icy, fresh water! Depending on the time of the year the water can get as low as freezing temps so make sure you test the water first. We went in the middle of summer and it still took our breath away!
The "hike" (more like a walk on a paved footpath) in is very short (10 minutes max) and has old farming artifacts along the way. There is also a small General Store for icecream, drinks etc and ample amount of parking available.
We had an absolute blast... all jumping, all sliding and all swimming! This is an adventure not to miss when visiting the beauty of Sedona!
When we first found out we were moving to Oahu I had agreed to do this 10km with a friend from Lana'i. She had wanted a goal to get her motivated and we chose this race.... we were going to walk it! 3 weeks prior to race day... she bailed :(.... she came down with an injury and I was on my own!
I had done no training as I thought we were walking it together but now I was doing it alone I couldn't think of anything worse than walking it! So off I set.....
I am happy to say I ran the entire 10km (at no great speed) but was constantly inspired by the thousands of runners who still had miles and miles and miles to go before they finished their race! Hawaii really does make perfect running weather and I was glad I did it... nerves and all!
For me, I never do these races to win but to finish. I love to be amongst so many inspirational people who all took their own "journey" to got them here! All shapes and sizes, all with a different story, all getting out and moving there body. Its a pretty cool place to be!
